Silvercore Autoformer
Who knows the good old Klinger loudspeaker books, they are certainly already noticed: the transformers in front of the tweeters. They also served to adjust the level to the woofer as well as the fine dosage of the high-frequency energy with different music material. Today, the red pencil rules, that is, two resistors or a poti are cheaper, and the transformer has disappeared from the pit box. And thus the advantage that a transformer offers. If we calm the tweeter over a resistor, we change the parameters of the driver, but especially the damping factor. The tweeter sounds tired and not so dynamic. In the transformer or autoformer, the behavior is exactly the opposite, the volume adjustment is purely inductive, which means almost lossless. The damping factor is even higher and the dynamics of the tweeter is fully preserved. Today, Autoformer are used almost exclusively in professional sound and in studio monitors. We wrap the autoformers not on iron core as before but on toroidal core, so we achieve a perfect frequency response far beyond the listening area.

Autoformer with amorphous cores
The amorphous core material has fundamentally better transmission properties compared to conventional cores, the frequency response is extended upward, the resolution is higher. However, amorphous cores are much more sensitive to nuclear saturation, therefore the autoformer must be kept free of low frequencies, e.g. through a precondensator.
